Counselling And Art Therapy For Belmont

If you have typed counsellor near me while sitting somewhere around Belmont, here is the short version: Northspan Wellbeing is just over Lake Road in Takapuna, close enough that clients regularly walk in from Belmont on their lunch break or drive over after dropping the kids at Belmont Primary. Online sessions are there too, for the weeks when even that short trip feels like one thing too many. We are a small team offering counselling Belmont residents can actually get to, and every session booked here helps fund lower cost counselling through our charitable partner, Wingspan, which has been part of this city since 1893.

Counselling Belmont

What Counselling Actually Involves

Most people arrive without a clear idea of what they want to talk about. You don't need a tidy explanation of what's wrong before you book, just enough to start talking.

Once you're in the room, someone's there to listen properly, not lecture you or push a plan that worked for somebody else. Stress, grief, a relationship gone quiet, a flat feeling with no obvious cause: sessions cover whatever's actually going on for you.

Some weeks you'll talk the whole time. Other weeks you'll barely get a sentence out, and that's fine too. Our counsellor Belmont clients see most often gets picked based on what you actually need, not just whoever's free that Tuesday.

Art Therapy, For When Talking Is not Quite Enough

A handful of our counsellors also bring art based and expressive approaches into the room. Some people find that talking only gets them so far. A drawing, an object, even just moving around the room, can get somewhere words don't. Not every counsellor works this way, so ask when you get in touch. Our art therapy Belmont clients tend to be a mix, some are children, some are adults who have simply run out of words for what they are carrying.

Why Belmont Locals Choose Us

We will be upfront: our clinic sits in Takapuna, not Belmont itself. But Belmont backs almost straight onto us. Plenty of people walk the Shoal Bay path past Saint Leonards Beach and across the old Bayswater Bridge to get here, and for most, it is still a shorter trip than heading into the city. A drive not happening this week? The session runs online instead.

We also will not pretend counselling moves in a straight line. There are awkward first sessions. There are weeks you leave wondering if anything actually shifted. That is normal, and it does not mean the work has stopped.

Who We See

We work with individuals, couples and families, plus youth counselling for under 18s and support for younger children. Anxiety, grief, parenting pressure, a rough patch in a relationship, one of those big life shifts nobody warns you about: chances are someone here has sat with it before. Get in touch and describe what's going on, we'll take it from there.
